To support and empower individuals and families impacted by domestic violence, child abuse, and sexual assault.
Who We Are
Haven House is a nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting and empowering individuals and families impacted by domestic violence, sexual assault, and child abuse. We offer safe shelter, crisis intervention, prevention education, and compassionate advocacy—serving communities across the southern Kenai Peninsula and beyond.
With a focus on trauma-informed care, equity, and accessibility, our team works every day to create a safer, more just future for everyone.
History
Our Roots, Our Purpose
More than forty years ago, a small group of compassionate community members began a quiet, grassroots effort to provide emergency “safe home” housing for women experiencing domestic violence and sexual assault. In 1980, with the support of the local community mental health center and an engaged Board of Directors, a crisis line was established. This greatly expanded access to safe shelter and advocacy. In 1981, South Peninsula Haven House was formally incorporated. The following year, we moved into our own office space, laying the foundation for decades of growth and service.
Our Story
Haven House continues to evolve to meet the diverse needs of our community. We provide trauma-informed, culturally responsive, and client-centered services to all people impacted by domestic violence, sexual assault, and child abuse; regardless of age, gender identity, sexual orientation, race, ethnicity, religion, or ability. While our reach has grown — spanning from Seward to Nikiski, Homer to Voznesenka, and across Kachemak Bay — our purpose remains unchanged: to protect and support survivors of domestic and/or sexual abuse and to promote healing, justice, and safety.
Though it is deeply unfortunate that such services are still necessary, we are grateful that Haven House exists, offering not only shelter, but also education, advocacy, and prevention. It is only through continued awareness and collective effort that we can sustain this work and move toward a future free from violence.
Our Leadership Team
Haven House is guided by a dedicated leadership team committed to advancing our mission of safety, advocacy, and empowerment. Each member of our team plays a vital role in supporting survivors and strengthening our community. Together, we collaborate closely with our Board of Directors, staff, community members, partner organizations, and fellow local non-profits to ensure our programs are trauma-informed, responsive, and grounded in equity. Through shared vision and daily teamwork, we manage operations, ensure compliance with funding requirements, and deliver comprehensive services that meet the needs of individuals and families across the southern Kenai Peninsula.

South Peninsula Haven House Logo
The Meaning
The South Peninsula Haven House logo consists of a collaboration of the awareness ribbons for Domestic Violence (purple), Sexual Assault (teal), Child Abuse and Neglect (light blue), and Men Committed to Ending Violence (white).
The four awareness ribbons intertwined with a concentric circle – a series of purple, teal, light blue, and white ribbons – representing our belief in the freedom for all people and the interconnected nature of our lives on the Southern Kenai Peninsula. The protective Celtic Trinity Knots represents the ideal of safe families and Haven House's commitment to be part of ending domestic, sexual, and childhood violence.
